Miami-Dade and Broward couldn’t be more different, from traffic to airports to beaches. But there’s one weekend when residents on both sides of the county line can convene to revel in how incredible it is live anywhere south of Pompano Beach. Miami Broward One Carnival is a series of events leading up to an all-day festival this Sunday at Sun Life Stadium (2269 NW 199th St., Miami Gardens). The carnival was designed to unite the community and celebrate all the cultures in South Florida.
In 2011, Miami Carnival Inc. and Broward Caribbean Carnival Inc. came together under one festive umbrella. Ever since, they’ve marched into the stadium while wearing three-foot-tall headpieces and tons of feathers and bumping to festival music. Beginning at noon, the carnival will parade around the stadium grounds to celebrate community pride and civic involvement. But in reality, we just want to march to the beat of the Caribbean drums and enjoy tons of authentic island food. In addition, more than 30 bands are scheduled to play live music all day long.
So, Dade and Broward, strap on your sequinned bikinis and put your differences aside. We have one thing in common after all: knowing how to party.
