Brazilian cinema is back in a big way with the 18th edition of the Brazilian Film Festival hitting South Beach this week. Kicking off with the Back to the ’80s party Saturday, the festival will begin presenting films the following day. This Sunday through Tuesday, Miami Beach Cinematheque (1130 Washington Ave., Miami Beach) will not only host a series of documentaries — Petra Costa’s award-winning documentary Elena among them — but also pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the poet Vinícius de Moraes with two films based on his life and work.
Competitive screenings will take place Wednesday through August 24 at the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach), with tickets available for purchase online or at the box office. The schedule features films of all genres, including The Invisible Collection, Tales of the Tide, First Day Any Year, and Never Too Old to Meow.
