The still-expanding Underline is an urban haven for both people and pets, but now the latter are getting their own special spot on the ten-mile urban park beneath the Metrorail, in partnership with a popular South Florida-based pet product company.

Chewy has announced it will open a dog park on The Underline in Coral Gables this week. Opening at 4500 Ponce De Leon Blvd., the Chewy Bark Park is the brand’s first-ever dog park. The Underline says the City of Coral Gables funded the park, with Chewy partnering for naming rights and events. Among its amenities are designated play areas for small and large dogs, hydration and waste stations, and “agility elements that encourage safe play and socialization.”

“The park is part of Coral Gables’ ongoing investment in high-quality public spaces and Friends of The Underline’s mission to create safe, welcoming places that bring people and their pets together,” Chewy and The Underline announced in a joint statement. “The partnership with Chewy helps amplify that impact and reflects Chewy’s commitment to supporting everyday life with pets in Miami.”

The Chewy Bark Park is part of the third and final phase of The Underline’s development, rolling out at sites across Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and South Miami. The project is expected to be completed this year. The new development is also of note for the Plantation-based pet brand, which just opened a Chewy Vet Care location in Aventura — its first in Miami-Dade — in October.

“As nearly 60 percent of The Underline visitors are dog owners, the Chewy Bark Park is a natural extension of our mission to connect people, pets, and neighborhoods through community and wellness,” Eulois Cleckley, CEO of Friends of The Underline, said in a statement. “We’re excited to open this incredible destination with Chewy, a company deeply rooted in South Florida, to bring new life, activity, and pet-friendly spaces to the Miami community.”

The dog park will open with a grand opening ceremony featuring Chewy’s Chief Brand Officer Orlena Yeung and The Underline’s Chief Executive Officer Eulois Cleckley on Saturday, January 31. Attendees can expect giveaways and a chance for pups to test out the new digs. Dogs must be leashed and up to date on vaccinations.
