While the rest of the country is frolicking in unabashed sunshine, we’re cursed with a summer of dank, rainy weather. We’d bet that weeks full of days that make you want to sleep and nights that make you want to cry drive liquor sales through the roof. This year, instead of curling up with a bottle of Irish Rose, get acquainted with cognac, the best-known type of brandy and a drink that warms your soul and brings out your interior sun. To help in your exploration, Alliance Français brings you A Journey into Cognac, a history and tasting that might knock you off your feet but will certainly win you over with a liquor so special it has a town named after it. Beginning at 11 a.m. this Saturday, cognac expert Veronique Lemoine will lead you through the potable’s creation and allow you to taste and feel the sensation of various varieties of the brown stuff. For $50 ($30 for AF members), you will be able to blame your newfound smile on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol.
