Dutch-born Han Bennink is arguably one of the most venerated drummers on the European jazz scene. Throughout his half-century career, Bennink has performed with legends such as Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon while making a name for himself as an unpredictable free-jazz improviser. His madcap performances go way beyond the drum kit, as he plays on anything within reach, including drinking glasses, microphone stands, tables, and even fire alarms. His body is also an instrument — he often holds a drumstick against his teeth while hitting it with another.

For this rare South Florida appearance this Saturday at the Byron Carlyle Theater, Bennink will lead his Third Man Trio, rounded out by Michael Moore (reeds) and Will Holshouser (accordion). Expect to be surprised.
