The best thing about having kids? You’re excused from the horrendous obligation known as “New Year’s Eve.” No paying double at clubs just because they’ll be handing out kazoos and silver balloons. No awkward moments when a co-worker attempts to position himself next to you for an unwanted New Year’s smooch. And no puking because he’s been successful and shoved his tequila-soaked tongue down your throat.

Now that you’ve got 2.2 young ones, you can celebrate the end of a craptastic 2009 by taking the whole family to the Miami Children’s Museum for Noon Year’s Eve. The party jumps off at 10 a.m. with games and arts and crafts that you’ll pretend to be only mildly interested in. Then at noon (the other 12 o’clock), the museum will do its own countdown with a balloon drop and all. (Just make sure your 4-year-old isn’t using the opportunity to make any moves.) This Thursday at 2 p.m., it’s time to head home and sleep off that apple juice. The party is free with paid admission, which is $12 for Florida residents and half-off ($7.50) for Miami residents.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
