Back in 2000, Miami New Times declared the Square Egg the best new rap act in town. And this Friday, we get to bask in the glory of our prediction, for even though Square Egg absconded to Brooklyn to pursue its dreams, it’s still a Miami band. Why else head back to the Magic City for a tenth anniversary concert?
And the boys are not coming back with the same-old, same-old. They’ve grown to a prodigious 13 members while retaining that infectious sound you can’t pin down as either soul, hip-hop, or funk but nevertheless nails all three. And rest assured, while other original members have moved on, main man Lee Williams is still on the mike. At 11 p.m., the new/old group will take over the stage at Jazid, where the band first launched its sound. Cover is ten bucks. Once you’re inside, kamikaze shots are only $4.
