If you think all ink conventions are a drunken excuse for you and your friends to get matching butthole tattoos, then Mickey Steinberg, head organizer of Tattoolapalooza, has a message for you.
“That’s not cool,” he says. “We’re about art, not just the partying lifestyle.”
Steinberg, who owns Eternal Ink in Davie and Into the Woods fine art gallery in Dania Beach, is committed to bringing the world’s best flesh etchers to South Florida.
“We’ve got a lot of famous artists, from Billy Vegas, who was on Ink Master, to Paul Acker, who’s known the world over for his horror portraits. We’ve also got artists from China, Japan, Germany, and Peru.”
The three-day convention will feature daily contests, sideshow performers, live painting, and a seminar on color theory by Tanane Whitfield from Virginia. Permanent souvenirs are available from the show floor, with close to 100 artists fulfilling Steinberg’s mission to “let people have more of a choice from the best of what’s out there.”
