Miami is supposed to be one of the world’s sexiest cities. Unfortunately the sex here has as much feminist power as sales racks of Victoria’s Secret lingerie. Thank goodness the World Erotic Art Museum is bringing intelligent sex to the Beach with its Josephine Baker exhibit, launched in honor of Black History Month.
Josephine Baker is a hero in the history of eroticism, but also in black history, women’s history, and jazz history — hell, this woman helped fight the Nazis! She was a sex goddess, a civil rights leader, and the mother of a “Rainbow Tribe” of 13 children from different countries (take that, Angelina Jolie!). Baker flaunted her sexuality, her African ancestry, and her stardom, without apology. And, damn, she looked good wearing nothing but a skirt made of bananas. See a rare collection of original posters, photos, paintings, and sound recordings of La Baker at the museum, which is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight. Tickets cost $15, and you must be 18 or older.
