On major holidays such as Saint Patty’s Day and Halloween, you can count on downtown Fort Lauderdale to become one big drunk fest. But once a year, the same sticky streets are upgraded to showcase top quality domestic and imported micro brews, specialty ales, and lagers. Ladies and gentleman, this Saturday is the New Times’s 13th Annual Beerfest. This year, expect more restrooms, more space, and, most importantly, more beer. There will be live performances from the Battle of the Bands winner Community Property and UV, a U2 tribute band. Moe’s Southwest Grill, Duffy’s Sports Bar, and Miller’s Ale House will provide food to help soak up all the brew.
If this is your first year, adhere to the following Beerfest commandments: (1) Purchase tickets in advance and save a tenner. Regular tickets cost $25 pre-sale and $35 at the door. For VIP, it’s $75 or $85 at the door. (2) Don’t get lost. Beerfest is held at Esplanade Park (20 N. New River Dr. W., Fort Lauderdale). (3) Don’t be late to Beerfest. Arrive at the start time of 7 p.m. to pack in the full four hours of imbibing. (4) Don’t turn your back on craft breweries. Beerfest will feature 50 of the tastiest hard-to-find microbrews. (5) Take along a teetotaler to drive you home.
