Hear that? It’s the sound of barley brewing and kegs filling. It can mean only one thing: Oktoberfest is upon us.
For 19 years, Coral Gables’ Fritz & Franz Bierhaus (60 Merrick Way, Coral Gables) has brought Munich’s world-famous beer festival right to our backyard, Bavarian bands and all. The real Oktoberfest in Germany ends Sunday, but true to Miami form, Fritz & Franz’s Oktoberfest is keeping the suds alive for another week. The 19th annual Coral Gables Oktoberfest is a ten-day binge of beer-induced banter, beer-battered bratwurst, and, of course, beer by the barrel.
Kick off the bonanza with a keg-tapping ceremony this Thursday, and if you think you’ve got the bauch, compete in the bratwurst-eating contest. So strap on your suspenders — it’s going to be a partei. Enjoy authentic German beer to the sounds of Austrian band Gastein and the Black Forest Band, winner of the Best German Album award.
Mondays-Saturdays, 11-midnight; Sundays, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Starts: Oct. 3. Continues through Oct. 13, 2013
