Shows such as Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! make fun of the old days when public access shows and VHS tapes contained some of the strangest moments and characters ever. However, those are only imitations of awesomely bad VHS tapes. If you want to see the real deal, go to the Found Footage Festival. Taking place at O Cinema Wynwood (90 NW 29th St., Miami) this Friday and Saturday, the fest is completely made up of videos that were found at thrift stores, warehouses, garage sales, and dumpsters across the nation. The folks behind the festival — cofounders and hosts Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett — have spent ten years amassing a huge collection of diamond-in-the-rough videos, totaling more than 1,000 hours. In 2004, after watching each video, Pickett and Prueher curated 90 minutes of what they consider the best of the best found footage. Let the Found Footage Festival be your time capsule. Let it take you down Memory Lane, a place where tapes full of kitschy and wonderfully awkward footage still exists.
