Hello, Kitty: My roommate and I had sex a few days ago, and now things are weird. I never knew he was into me, but we were drinking and the night went in a totally different direction than I expected. Now he barely makes eye contact, never speaks to me, and I’m worried our friendship is ruined. Even worse, when his girlfriend comes over, he goes out of his way to say mean shit to me. I’m sure he’s uncomfortable about sleeping with a guy, and this is his homophobic way of covering up what we did. How can I make this situation more bearable? I’m not moving out, I really don’t want him to, but something’s gotta give. Help!

Hey, Awquardnow: Some people don’t want to discuss the crazy shit they did while drunk. They believe waking up with pissy pants, a black eye, and crusty hurl cascading down the side of their face is punishment enough. Claiming it was not them and it didn’t happen is just a way of explaining away something they would never have done while sober. Though drunken slipups are usually meaningful, you can’t force your roomie to confront his homosexual tendencies. If he has a girlfriend and had never been with a man before you, he’s definitely suppressing those feelings and he’s most likely beyond mad that he revealed himself to you.
My advice: Move out. You should never be berated or ignored in your own home, unless you want to be. If you must stay, avoid him for a bit. His embarrassment and anger are intensified by your presence. He doesn’t have the right to act like a child, but boys will be boys. Give him some space and try to ride this out. Perhaps he’ll come to his senses and have a convo with you about it. Or maybe he’ll go back to acting “normal” and pretend your night of pleasure never happened. You’ll just have to wait and see.
