The long line of Biscayne Boulevard is home to a string of historic hotels in various states of decay and charm. The revamped Vagabond combines modern amenities with funky, retro styling that carries through the rooms, lobby, and the cozy pool, which features the now-restored famous mermaid mosaic.

Throughout the lengthy beautification process, adhering to the site’s historical roots was the main challenge for developer Avra Jain. She hopes the graphic and kitschy makeover reignites Miami’s fondness for the ’50s gem.

“Knowing what it meant to the community is still…almost, emotional. Very emotional,” she says.
