This Saturday marks the ninth anniversary of 9/11. So from morning to midnight, CNN will be a maudlin Ferris wheel while Fox News stokes the shards of hurt and fury that still float in your system like kidney stones. The networks will probably air footage of the towers falling repeatedly, which, not to get too Freudian, will be a real boner killer. Still, you’ll have to find your inner strength to attend a bacchanal of transgressive eroticism, because Saturday is also the night of the Fetish Apocalypse, the latest in the Fetish Factory’s Alter Ego series of monthly goth-glam throwdowns. So strap on the slickest, tightest, blackest outfit you own, and get kinky.

From 2003-2006 he worked as a staff writer for New Times Broward-Palm Beach, where his stories won state and national awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. He left to report and produce for such outlets as ESPN, Harper’s Magazine, the New York Times, the CBC, Sports Illustrated, the Associated Press, and the Netflix show Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. In 2024, Sam and two fellow New Times alums released Hold Fast: The Unadulterated Story of the World’s Most Scandalous Website, an audio documentary. He has a bachelor’s in journalism from Northwestern University and a master’s in journalism from the University of British Columbia.
