How different would Miami be without Cuban culture? Our Cuba Libres would be just rum and Coke, and, well, we’d probably have to rename Little Havana. Truthfully, the Magic City would be sin magia. And since 1959, Miami’s diverse culture has been influenced by the power struggles between Fidel Castro and American politicians. Now, owing to El Comandante‘s recent health problems, Anne Louise Bardach is asking an even more complicated question: What will happen without Fidel?

Bardach’s tome expounds on two decades of research and interviews with power players such as Fidel and his brother Raúl, as well as ordinary Cubans and the infamous anti-Castro exile Luis Posada Carriles.
