Now in its third year of bringing quality chamber music to its gardens, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (10901 Old Cutler Rd., Coral Gables) continues a balanced and exciting music program. South Florida is already well-primed for Fairchild’s mission of fostering “the collaborative and creative spirit between musicians and artists in other genres.” This season looks to continue the tradition, and this Sunday’s performance, The Sacred, Profane and Spiritual, will be a great introduction for those who’ve never experienced the contemplative powers of classical compositions. Borrowing from numerous time periods, this performance will explore Jewish mysticism in contemporary Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov’s The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind, a klezmer piece for clarinet and string quartet in three movements representing the historical Jewish languages. Franz Liszt’s first of the Mephisto Waltzes and the likeliest to be performed, Der Tanz in der Dorfschenke, can work as either an orchestral or piano piece — regardless of which, the reverence of Bach in this motet lends itself to the Faustian tale. And Berlioz’s 1830 program symphony, the Symphonie Fantastique, will remind most of the eerie ambiance it lent Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Fairchild opens at 6 p.m. and will offer a variety of events before the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Call 305-667-1651 or visit fairchildgarden.org
