From the pageantry of Polynesian fire-dancers to the contemplative mystical arts of Tibet, the spirit of the Orient is being celebrated at Miami Dade College InterAmerican Campus through June 22 at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival. This series of events includes films, art exhibits, dance shows, martial-arts performances, and lectures about Asian history and culture. “We wanted to provide students and the public with a wide range of activities reflecting a global community,” explains Tony Delgado, campus director of student life.
@cal body 1:Today from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., visitors can experience the final viewing of a mandala sand-painting painstakingly created over several days by monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery. The mandala will be presented as an offering for planetary healing, with Tibetan Lama Migmar Tseten officiating at the closing ceremony. “They will be passing out handfuls of the sand to the public as a blessing before carrying the remainder to the ocean to release the energy back to the universe,” Delgado says.
