Big things are happening in Little Havana. Slowly but surely, artists are turning the neighborhood into a place where new art meets a longstanding culture. At first sight, Little Havana might seem like an unlikely area for the next artist colony, but look closer. From art fairs such as Viernes Culturales — the Little Havana version of Wynwood’s Second Saturday Art Walk — to walking tours, art and cultural appreciation in this barrio is everywhere.
Krave Art’s Daniel Fila, known for his signature character Fresh Monkey, along with his semi-nude mural Erin and the series it inspired, has bought into Little Havana’s cultural renaissance. Fila moved out of his Wynwood and Design District studio spaces to a bigger and better minimalist project space in Little Havana that he aptly named “El Fresco” (The Fresh). This Friday, a launch party with food and music will mark the official opening of Krave’s new space.
