After three and a half years as a weekend staple in Wynwood, one of the country’s most famous open-air food halls and markets is back.
Smorgasburg South Florida, once known as Smorgasburg Miami, is officially moving its operation north. The open-air food market announced that it will host its grand opening in Fort Lauderdale’s Flagler Village on April 11 and 12.
The relocation follows the December closure of its original Wynwood site at 2600 NW Second Ave. According to reports, it was shuttered to make way for a luxury residential development.

A Redesigned Experience
The Fort Lauderdale iteration is being positioned as a “reimagined” version of the market.
The new location at 536 NE Second St. marks a new chapter for the brand, which founder Gaston Becherano says will feature a more intentional design than the gravel-lot origins of the Miami version.
According to the team, the new site will address some of the logistical complaints from the Wynwood days by offering an improved layout, more shade, and specific curated programming. While the Miami location had a raw, industrial feel, the Flagler Village site is being built to accommodate a growing population of young professionals.
Despite the change in scenery, the core “incubator” model remains. Smorgasburg has spent the last several years functioning as a low-risk testing ground for emerging chefs and small businesses that aren’t ready for a traditional brick-and-mortar lease.
By moving to a neighborhood experiencing a surge in arts and culture, the market is positioning itself as a central hub for Broward’s evolving dining scene.

The Vendor Lineup
The grand opening will feature more than 45 food and retail vendors representing 15 different countries. The list includes several returning favorites from the Miami roster, such as the Lazy Oyster, Santo Dulce, Seoul Hotteok, and Riddim n’ Bao.
Newcomers and regional startups will also be in the mix, offering everything from Lebanese shawarma and Korean skewers to Colombian empanadas and artisanal desserts.

Still Free and Dog-Friendly with Plenty of Shopping
The retail section will also be a permanent fixture. Guests can expect vendors like Alchemy Clayworks and Grampa’s Closet setting up stalls alongside the food vendors. Following the opening weekend, the market will return to its regular schedule, operating every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
The market will remain free to enter and dog-friendly, maintaining the accessibility that made it a hit with locals. For those who grew accustomed to the weekend ritual in Miami, the new location is roughly 25 miles north, but the team is banking on the “reimagined” experience being worth the drive.
