There’s a new reason to linger a little longer after dinner at CocoWalk. Behind Da Angelino Cucina Italiana, the newly opened Italian spot in Coconut Grove, a hidden apperitivo bar has quietly opened. And it truly feels like an Italian gem.

The new wine bar, al Bàcaro, draws inspiration from the bàcari of Northern Italy. Bàcari are casual neighborhood spots where locals stop for a quick glass of wine and a bite before continuing their evening.

The new bar leans heavily into that relaxed aperitivo culture, with a mostly alfresco setup that spills onto a breezy patio. Whether it’s a pre-movie spritz or an easy meet-up with friends, the new addition in CocoWalk was much-needed.

While the main dining room focuses on classic sit-down meals, the speakeasy-style wine bar shifts the energy toward grazing, sipping, and socializing.

A Venetian-Style Escape Tucked Behind Da Angelino

If you’ve visited Da Angelino since its debut last fall, al Bàcaro feels like a seamless evolution. The restaurant is a collaboration between Graspa Group and Ariete Hospitality Group. While the main dining room focuses on classic sit-down meals, the speakeasy-style wine bar shifts the energy toward grazing, sipping, and socializing.

The menu is built around shareable plates meant to complement conversation. Stuffed focaccia arrives filled to order with combinations like prosciutto and stracciatella, mortadella with pistachio, or sausage paired with broccoli rabe and burrata. Charcuterie boards stacked with Italian meats and cheeses invite slow snacking, ideally alongside a glass of wine.

Plus, a rotating selection of cicchetti (Venice’s answer to tapas) keeps things playful and approachable.

Favorites include meatballs in tomato sauce, saffron arancini, potato croquettes wrapped in prosciutto, and paper cones filled with fried calamari and shrimp. The idea is simple: mix, match, and share rather than commit to a formal meal.

Wine Takes Center Stage

In true Italian fashion, wine is the main event. The list leans heavily Italian, with an emphasis on exploration. Guests can order smaller pours known as gottini, mini glasses ideal for tasting multiple regions in one visit, or build their own three-wine flight. Classic spritzes and aperitivo cocktails round out the experience, reinforcing the bar’s easygoing, linger-friendly mood.

Looking ahead, the team plans to introduce to-go charcuterie boxes tailored for boat days and casual hosting. (A very Coconut Grove touch.)

Open daily from noon to 10 p.m., al Bàcaro adds a laid-back, transportive hangout to the neighborhood, one that captures the spirit of Italian drinking culture while fitting seamlessly into the Grove’s walkable rhythm.
