When it comes to pizza, Miami hasn’t always gotten its due. For years, the Magic City was better known for stone crabs, Cuban sandwiches (try these amazing spots), and flashy tasting menus than for cheesy, foldable slices. But over the past five years, that narrative has quietly and decisively changed. Today, there’s fresh, national proof. Two South Florida pizzerias have just been ranked among the 10 Best Pizza Slices in the U.S. by the prestigious Fodor’s Travel, a trusted authority known for its expertly curated guides and insider picks. This is a major win for a region that’s been building serious pizza cred one wood-fired oven at a time.

Yes, you read that right. Two South Florida pizzerias are ranked among the best slices in the U.S., and they did it the old-school way: staying fiercely loyal to tradition. We’re talking beautifully charred crusts, imported Italian ingredients, and recipes rooted in generations of craft. It’s a massive honor just to make the list, let alone land two entries in the top tier, and it reinforces what locals have known for a while now: Miami’s pizza scene is thriving. I mean, just last week, one of Italy’s most famous pizzerias announced it would open its first U.S. location in Miami. So, you know, the Magic City has become an incredible pizza town, right up there with New York and Chicago.

Below, let’s dig into the award-winning pizzerias, ranked. Buon appetito, South Florida!

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana has been ranked as the second-best pizza slice in America, and it has two locations in South Florida

No. 2 – Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana

Coming in at an impressive No. 2 is Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, the legendary New Haven institution founded in 1925. While its Connecticut roots run deep, South Floridians can get a taste of history at Frank Pepe’s Delray Beach and Plantation locations. Fodor’s praised the pizzeria’s role in defining New Haven-style pizza, highlighting its signature coal-fired cooking process and commitment to high-quality, no-frills ingredients that have stood the test of time.

According to Fodor’s, one of the publication’s reasons for loving these slices is the lack of mozzarella cheese. Instead, pizza at Frank Pepe’s is topped with grated pecorino romano. This pizzeria also invented the clam pie, with fresh littleneck clams floating on top of the crust, for a salty flavor.

Regulars in South Florida praise its Plantation and Delray locations for their fresh ingredients, unique dough, and impeccable service.

No. 6 – ‘O Munaciello

Landing at No. 6 is the award-winning ‘O Munaciello in Miami, which has locations in the MiMo District and on Coral Way — and an original location in Florence, Italy, at Via Maffia 31R (so you know this pizzeria is authentic). Ranked among the top ten best pizzerias in the U.S. by the prestigious 50 Best Pizza in 2025, O’Munaciello isn’t your regular pizza shop. The eatery offers other fare from Italy’s Campania region, but the star of the restaurant is the pizza made by chef Carmine Candito, who grew up working at his family’s pizzeria in Naples, Italy.

The Neapolitan-style pizzeria offers a variety of unique pies, some infused with activated charcoal to create a black-hued dough. Most are topped with traditional fixings such as mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil. Every ingredient used in its wood-fired pies traces back to Italy, from San Marzano and Piennolo cherry tomatoes to San Daniele prosciutto and fior di latte mozzarella. The menu spans roughly 30 pizzas, ranging from a classic margherita to Genovese-style pies topped with fragrant pesto.

In 2022, Candito took things even further, winning the World Pizza Champion contest at Pizza Expo Las Vegas. His award-winning creation lives on as the “Las Vegas” pizza, topped with mozzarella, Piennolo cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, sausage, mushrooms, and Parmesan, a global title-holder born in South Florida.
