Laura Loomer, the far-right Florida conspiracy theorist and member of the Pentagon Press Corps, has a new attorney for her pending $150 million defamation lawsuit against HBO and comedian Bill Maher.

In a new federal court filing in the Middle District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale-based attorney Frederick Sujat announced that he has joined Loomer’s legal team following the suspension of attorney Larry Klayman.

‘To clerk of courts and parties of all record: I am admitted or otherwise authorized to practice in this court, and I appear in this case as counsel for Plaintiff Laura Loomer,” the December 15 filing reads.

The Florida Supreme Court suspended the Judicial Watch founder’s law license for two years for conflict-of-interest issues and other violations during his representation of a woman in a 2010 sexual harassment lawsuit in Washington, D.C. Under the November 6 order, Klayman had 30 days to close his Florida practice. While Klayman told New Times that he planned to challenge the order before the U.S. Supreme Court, he conceded that he would have to step away from Loomer’s case should the order stand. The Florida Bar website states that Klayman is not eligible to practice law in Florida.

In her federal lawsuit, Loomer alleges Maher defamed her last year by suggesting that she and President Donald Trump were having an affair. The case was initially filed in Sumter County court before being transferred to federal court in November 2024.

During the episode of Real Time with Bill Maher in question, Maher said he believed Loomer is in an “arranged relationship to affect the election.”

“Because she’s very close to Trump, she’s 31, looks like his type,” he said. “We did an editorial here a few years ago….It was basically, ‘Who’s Trump fucking?’ Because, I said you know: it’s not nobody. He’s been a dog for too long, and it’s not Melania. I think we may have our answer this week. I think it might be Laura Loomer. I’m just saying.”

Her complaint claimed that Maher’s statements “severely harmed and damaged” Loomer’s reputation.

“In this statement, Defendant Maher makes the false statement that Ms. Loomer is in a sexual relationship with Donald Trump, who is a married man,” the complaint reads. “Thus, Defendant Maher has falsely and maliciously accused Ms. Loomer of having committed adultery with Donald Trump.”
