30. McLaine Oberhellmann

This punk rock girl has a style all her own. McLaine Oberhellmann is a Miami

transplant from St. Louis, and has

used the amazing aura of our city to create a clothing line that is unique and

hardcore. McLaine O is a girly, rocker,

punk, pin-up, glam mix that is totally refreshing.

McLaine studied fashion design at the International Fine Arts College, but has deep roots in the world of couture. “I have a knowledge of clothing construction, but my clothes are totally rock’n’roll.”  She prides herself on meticulous attention to perfection and detail. The designer’s inspiration comes from the bright colors of Miami, punk rock shows, music, and other artists. The famous lights of the city have given her a different eye for colors and style.

Art Basel was a huge step for the edgy designer as she rocked the fashion exhibit at the Multiversal Group Show. Her “Youthful, yet sophisticated,” style of design has begun to catch the eye of many local fashionistas.

My next big project is launching the new McLaine O website. I will be doing a big push to get my designs in local stores and boutiques. I will also be traveling to Los Angeles to participate in the “Rock n Roll Glamour Show.”

4. Why do you do what you do?

Because it’s all consuming for me, I wake up and think about it and it doesn’t stop throughout the day. I am so passionate about it, and I love it. It makes me totally happy.

5. What’s something you want Miami to know about you?

I’ve been a creative person since I was a kid. All the experiences that I’ve had, the punk rock shows, all the things I’ve seen have helped to guide my viewpoint as a designer. Traveling has definitely been an inspiration for me. One of the last places I went to was Austin, Texas. The whole Mexican culture is reflected in the art there. I was totally inspired by the sugar skulls and other such imagery there.
