When the city’s most popular food trucks started disavowing the now-defunct Gourmet Food Truck Association last week, the reaction from customers was mostly confusion. What exactly was it, anyways, and would its collapse affect the many popular food truck courts currently going?

While Short Order revealed some of the sordid details behind the break-up of the GFTA yesterday, the good news is that, as expected, its dissipation will have an effect on truck owners and patrons of, exactly, nil. The only food truck court the GFTA created was a fledgling weekly Wednesday meet-up in Pinecrest — and it will still go on tonight.

Proving that food truck owners, a pretty independent lot, don’t need an outsider to organize them, two participants in past Pinecrest rallies took over. “Wing Commander and I decided that it was important to keep this South Miami site alive for our customers,” says David Pastrana, co-owner with Kimberly Kilmer of the Miso Hungry truck. “They are our driving force and the reason why we cook.”

The Miso Hungry and My Wing Commander crew duly secured permission from the property owner at the site — 13108 S. Dixie Hwy. — and, as before, have a rotating weekly lineup of over a dozen trucks planned.

Tonight, besides their own trucks, that’ll include Jefe’s, Caza Crepes, Nacho Mama’s, the Slow Food Truck, the Red Truck, Dolci Peccati, Grillmaster Cafe, Wrapidito Yum, and Snow Caps (a new ice cream truck). Hours are 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.

So now can we make a bad GFTA – GTFO joke?
