They call it food with integrity. We knocked em’ for not having it when they were buying what could have been slave tomatoes.
But Chipotle recently struck a deal with Florida company East Coast Growers and Packers to pay fair wages and ensure humane labor practices for Sunshine State tomato workers. According to Chris Arnold, communications director for Chipotle, who we spoke to when the deal was announced, Chipotle buys 15 – 20% of its yearly tomatoes from Florida.
Big ups for that.
Go to the brand new Chipotle in Hialeah (405 West 49th street) next Thursday, October 8th from 5 – 8 p.m. and they will give you either a free burrito, bowl (burrito without the tortilla), tacos, or a salad just for showing up. That’s right, free Chipotle food.
Show up the next day, Friday, October 9th, at the same Chipotle Mexican Grill in Hialeah and enter to a win a free-burritos-for-a-year contest. Also, the first 100 burrito customers at 3 p.m. will get a free t-shirt, and a free burrito coupon.
All Chipotle restaurants use pork from pigs raised humanely with no antibiotics or hormones and raised on a vegetarian diet. They say they sell more naturally raised meats than any other restaurant. 30% of the beans they use are organically grown. The new Hialeah Chipotle will serve green peppers, jalapeños, or romaine lettuce from Florida producers. Food with integrity is important, our thanks to Chipotle for keeping that in mind.
