You weren’t holding out hope that the City of Miami was going to delay closing Jimbo’s Place, were you? The city ordered the property closed to the public yesterday. It might take Miami workers months to fix that pothole in front of your house, but best believe they’re eager to seize Jimbo’s Virginia Key land that they’ve wanted to take back for decades.
Founder Jimbo Luznar’s family will be allowed to access the property to collect “mementos and the family’s personal belongings,” according to a statement from the city: “City officials are appreciative of the Luznar family and are working in conjunction with them prior to the clean-up of the site.”
As we detailed Friday, the venerable, pseudo-lawless bocce-and-smoked-fish hangout is closing amid an epic Luznar family feud that has seen one brother commit another for mental illness and an excessive a love of tequila.
Some of the Luznars were planning a final blow-out at Jimbo’s. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now.
