If the idea of wearing a bathrobe and swigging a cold craft beer to the screaming chords of Molly Hatchet on a giant boat in the middle of the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean sounds like a good time, the Labrewski Cruise was probably made for you.
Departing from Miami on March 1, it promises four days of the “ultimate craft beer vacation” aboard the NCL Pearl. The itinerary includes port stops in the Bahamas at Nassau/Paradise Island and Great Stirrup Cay. The ship returns March 5.
When not in port, the ship’s passengers will more than likely be preoccupied with events like daily craft beer tastings, food pairings, beer olympics, a Big Lebowski costume party, Dude bowling, live music and a tricycle race.
As far as beer is concerned, the list includes several dozen of the country’s top craft breweries, such as Dogfish Head and Stone Brewing. Florida brews from Funky Buddha and Cigar City will also be featured.
Cruise passengers will also get to meet a who’s who of craft brewing industry professionals, like Lagunitas Brewing‘s Ron Lindenbusch, Cigar City Brewing CEO Justin Clark, Boulder Beer Company President Jeff Brown and Stone Brewing’s lead brewer, Jeremy Moynier.
More than 20 bands will be performing live throughout the cruise. Southern rock and jam bands are the musical themes. Some bands you may recognize, such as O.A.R. and Jason Hann from The String Cheese Incident. Jacksonville rockers Molly Hatchet are also along for the ride.
Cabin fares range in price from several hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on the type of cabin and include amenities like daily complimentary beer tastings, food and beer pairings and access to the ship’s pools, health and fitness centers.
It’s not the first time a beer cruise came to Miami. Last November, a luxury cruise liner from Crystal Cruises featuring beer dinners from high-end chefs and beer cocktail seminars. Instead of brewing professionals, cruise passengers were treated to a list of government officials and reporters, including retired FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt.
