John Davis’s days as a Surfside police officer are over. The five year veteran has been under investigation for more than a year on charges he lied on his job application, sexually harrassed female coworkers, and was discourteous to his fellow cops and superiors

On Friday, October 12, Town Manager W.D. Higginbotham fired the onetime Officer of the Year based on an internal affairs investigation that concluded Davis made inappropriate sexual advances to former Surfside police trainee Melanie Grove in 2005. In a memo to Davis, Higginbotham accuses him of conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and of making false statements at an August hearing.

Davis refuted Higginbotham’s findings. “The town is doing anything and everything to descredit me,” Davis tells Riptide. “I have not lied since day one.” —Francisco Alvarado
