That is, if it was ever really on.

Negotiations between Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, his challenger Raul Martinez and CBS 4 have stalled, and the question of whether the two will meet face to face in an English language debate is back up in the air.

Last week it seemed that all sides would reach an agreement, however Diaz-Balart’s campaign was telling reporters he had accepted an invitation from CBS 4 for an October 3 debate while CBS 4 could not confirm that date.

$30,000

While a Spanish language debate on Univision appears to still be set, Diaz-Balart continues to dodge an English debate. Believe it or not, there are actually people who only speak English in the district. Not to mention younger voters who speak conversational Spanish at home and with friends, but went through school and follow their news in English.

Lincoln Diaz-Balart’s namesake was never afraid to debate, and with the race tighter than ever it seems especially important that the two candidates meet in venues all voters can understand.
