Former mob hero turned convicted murderer John Connolly took to the stand today at his sentencing trial after he had remained silent during his two month trial. In an interview published today in The Boston Globe, he affirmed his innocence even though a jury has concluded that indeed he did help orchestrate the murder business exec John Callahan in 1982, and was paid by the mob to cover it up.
“I did not commit these crimes I was charged with,” Connolly said. “I never sold my badge. I never took anybody’s money. I never caused anybody to be hurt, at least not knowingly, and I never would.”
New Times first chronicled Connolly’s saga two years ago.
68 year-old Connolly could face up to 30 years when his sentence comes down.
