Marco Rubio can collect all the endorsements of the Mike Huckabees and Jim DeMints of the world he wants, but Charlie Crist seems to be wracking up support from politicians who have been actually voted into office the Florida electorate. Today, Crist’s campaign announced the backing of Miami-area Reps. Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart.
The endorsement gives Crist inroads into Miami’s Cuban-American Republicans, a segment Rubio will need to win if he hopes to make it past the Republican primary.
Rubio might still have some hope to get the backing of Miami’s other Cuban-American representative, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Rubio got his start in politics by interning for Ros-Lehtinen, and her husband, Dexter Lehtinen, cohosted a fundraiser for Rubio last month.
