Charlie Crist likes to call himself the People’s Governor, so when his people complain about the outrageously long early-voting lines, he has to do something. Thankfully he signed an executive order today extending voting hours. Starting immediately, polls from now until Friday will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (polls were originally scheduled to close at 3 p.m.), and for a total of 12 hours on the weekend. No polls are open Monday, of course, and then Tuesday is the big day.
Many believe that early voting will favor Democrats, but it’s good to see Governor Crist is doing the right thing and not letting partisan worries get in the way.
Let’s hope this will cut down on lines, but just a reminder: The Miami-Dade County elections office has wait times listed online.
