The Herald’s Sunday article about Midtown’s growth mentioned the opening or planned opening of multiple restaurants. Turns out at least two of the reports are questionable.

The article, by business reporter Elaine Walker, claimed restaurateur/entrepreneur (and occasional New Times contributor) Michael Schwartz “hopes to open a barbecue restaurant in Midtown.” According to Karen Barofsky, who represents Schwartz, “[Michael’s] working on some upcoming projects…The proposed Midtown barbecue concept is not among them.”

Also, the piece stated that an Italian cafe is “coming soon.” Deborah Samuel, Director of Operations at Midtown, told Short Order that “Two restaurants are in negotiations – an Italian one and an Asian Fusion one [likely the new China Grill].” Plans for a Midtown Italian cafe thus aren’t definite.

Contacted by Short Order, Walker said the information was correct. She said she had interviewed Schwartz and claimed the article made clear the Italian joint is in negotiation. Yeah, right…
