Defensive end Phillip Merling is sitting in Broward County Jail this morning, charged with aggravated battery on a woman. What’s worse is the woman he’s accused of attacking was pregnant, and records show Merling either was aware or should have been aware of the pregnancy.
The 25-year-old was arrested in Weston sometime yesterday. He’s the fourth Dolphins player to be arrested this year: Ronnie Brown and Will Allen got picked up for DUIs, while Tony McDaniel was arrested for domestic violence.
Merling, who played for Clemson in college, was selected at the top of the 2008 draft by the Dolphins but has yet to make much of an impact on the field.
