Tuesday evening, an 18-year-old Gainesville resident named Bamboo Flute Blanchard grabbed a pocket knife and idly thought, I wonder what it would be like to take a life?
Then he wandered into the bedroom where his dad was lying, opened the knife, and plunged it into his chest.
The 54-year-old, whom sheriffs haven’t identified, told police he thought his son had just punched him in the chest until he looked down and saw the knife sticking out, the Gainesville Sun reports.
Bamboo’s father was taken to a local hospital, where he refused to give any further statements to police.
When officers arrested the 18-year-old, he also refused to discuss the stabbing, instead replying only with “grunts,” the Sun reports.
A younger brother witnessed the stabbing, though. Police say after musing about “taking a life,” Bamboo initially rubbed the knife over his own heart before declaring he couldn’t “handle it.”
