Art on the Macro and Micro Scale

This Friday, the Coral Gables Museum (285 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables) is proud to unveil two new exhibits: one that takes a close look at our own city, and another that focuses on something that matters to everyone worldwide. “Marking the Millennium: 21st Century Miami Architecture” turns a figurative microscope on the local cityscape to glean Miami’s expanding identity from the faces of its steadily growing skyline. Cities take their character as much from the buildings that define them as they do the inhabitants. What do our new constructions say about us? “Water Is Life,” on the other hand, features select works from Coral Gables art galleries and the University of Miami Fine Arts Program to create a stirring portrait of the most important element on our planet. Water gives us our life, even sometimes takes it away, and our very existence is tied to it in both romantic and pragmatic notions. With 11 participating galleries, visitors can surely expect a variety of styles and mediums. Just don’t arrive too thirsty, or it might drive you nuts.
