Bill Maher has become America’s voice of political and atheistic outrage. While other commentators such as Comedy Central’s beloved Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert try to soften their left-wing political messages through a goofy and often absurd delivery, Maher has spent the past 30 years speaking his mind on television, choosing to soften the blow of his political opinion only with patronizing sarcasm. This Sunday, Maher will perform at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Blvd., Miami Beach) in a show that will likely mesh well with the cynical humor of the large Miami Beach Jewish population. But in typical Maher style, he’ll probably pack his material with enough poking and prodding at their religious beliefs that they’ll still be squirming in their seats. Though it might be too much to ask for Maher to reach beyond the political and religious commentary that’s made him famous, he’s still a pretty damn hilarious stand-up comic.
