Every year, the National YoungArts Foundation devotes an entire week to the fledgling artists of the new generation, encouraging them to pursue their lifelong passion for the arts through vigorous programming that includes workshops, master classes, and activities with their esteemed mentors and YoungArts alumni.
Besides taking in as much knowledge as possible, the group of 170 insanely talented individuals will have the chance to share their skills with the world through a series of performances and film screenings at the New World Center (500 17th St., Miami Beach) during National YoungArts Week 2015, which begins this Sunday and lasts until January 11. From jazz and singer-songerwriter performances to classical voice and pop, there’s something for every ear to enjoy. And if music isn’t your thing, the week’s lineup also offers writers’ readings, dance, and theater performances.
To end the week properly and kick off the 2015 social season, the Backyard Ball gala January 10 will feature a dinner and a show directed by Tony winner Bill T. Jones. A concurrent takeover of the first, second, and seventh floors of the YoungArts campus (2100 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) will live-stream the performance while guests enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, desserts, and a bit of dancing. For the full lineup of National YoungArts Week events, call 305-377-1140 or visit youngarts.org/yaw2015.
