Love billfish and funfish? Head to the Yamaha Contender Miami Billfish Tournament, beginning Thursday at the Miami Beach Marina (300 Alton Rd., Miami Beach). The tournament, which is in its 32nd year, has raised $710,000 for marine conservation and education in South Florida. The tourney begins with final registration and a kick-off party at 6 p.m. Food will be catered by Sports Grill, and libations such as Pabst Blue Ribbon, Cuervo margaritas, Papa’s Pilar rum, Tito vodka and the Presidential Challenge Wine Bar will be available. Try your luck at the BlueWater Fighting Chairs. The party winds down at 10 p.m., making way for two days of competition. There are more than 50 ways to win during the tournament, with several big awards, including $15,000 and a trophy for the Grand Champion Boat. Raffle prizes, including a 25-foot Contender, are also up for grabs. All activities are open to the public, and competitions run through Saturday, so if you want to try your luck, sign up now. (Keep in mind you’ll need a permit for highly migratory species.) Call 305-598-2525 or visit miamibillfish.com.
