Remember those things called books? We don’t mean blaring white screens with font. We’re talking handheld, musty-smelling, ink-smudged treasures that take you away as soon as you peel back the cover. Miami Book Fair International has bridged the gap from forgotten tombs to bestselling e-books for decades, and with this massive celebration of all things literary comes a flurry of events and big names to keep even the most TV-addicted local interested. Marking it’s 31st year, the festival opens Sunday with the Evenings With… series, six nights of readings and discussions with noted authors from around the nation and world. Come next Friday, November 21, the street fair gets underway with the Festival of Authors, featuring more than 450 writers reading and discussing their works. Ira Glass, John Waters, Joyce Carol Oates, John Cleese, and Jason Segel are just a few of this year’s exciting visitors. From Latin American and Spanish works to children’s books to graphic novels, the festival truly has something for everyone to enjoy. Locals can also pick up treats from the fair, where more than 250 publishers and sellers will exhibit books with first editions, original manuscripts, and other collectibles. Miami Book Fair International will hold various events around the city beginning this Sunday and continuing through next Sunday, November 23. Visit miamibookfair.com for a full schedule of events.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 16. Continues through Nov. 23, 2014
