South Florida isn’t exactly a winter wonderland. With sunshine over snow, balmy breezes over icy winds, and palm trees over fragrant pines, it can feel a little less than festive ’round these parts. But the Falls’ annual Miracle on 136th Street Holiday Parade is the perfect substitute for NYC Christmas envy.

The lineup for this merry fete includes giant puppets, bagpipers, stilt-walkers, local marching bands, a junkanoo band, Brazilians dancers, a Dixieland band, local dignitaries in cool classic cars, costumed characters, celebrities, and lots more, all led by grand marshal Peyton List, the star of Disney’s Jessie.

Plus, Santa himself will make an appearance (because, let’s be real, he probably spends all his off time in Miami). In the spirit of the season, there’s even a good cause involved — the event benefits the South Dade YMCA Family Center and the Simon Youth Foundation.

Post-parade, the Falls will light up like the Griswold house, complete with hundreds of thousands of lights surrounding giant animal topiaries and elaborate water designs — a jovial jungle of elephants, giraffes, peacocks, camels, and dolphins.
Oh, and most important, Saint Nick will be available for photos at the mall’s Center Court.

The parade runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Falls, 8888 SW 136th St., Palmetto Bay. Admission is free. Visit simon.com/thefalls.

Sat., Nov. 22, 4 p.m., 2014
