Everyone loves flowers, especially ones that are unique and difficult for the average gardener to handle. For more than 60 years, the elusive orchid has attracted locals and tourists to the annual Miami International Orchid Show, where this plant is the star of a three-day showcase. Adoring flora lovers, photographers, and passersby will enjoy more than 500,000 rare and exotic blooms from nearly 200 professional growers, amateurs, and orchid aficionados. The 68th-annual Miami International Orchid Show will feature orchid-growing demonstrations for beginners from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, along with the famous American Orchid Society Accredited and Judged Show “Orchid Jubilee,” sponsored by the South Florida Orchid Society. Orchid-related events and vendors will fill the space throughout the weekend. Tickets are available at the BankUnited Center box office for $10. Children 10 and younger get in free. University of Miami employees, alumni, and students can save 20 percent by showing a valid UM ID (Cane Card/Alumni Association Card) at the BankUnited Center box office (1245 Dauer Dr., Coral Gables). Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days this Friday through Sunday. Visit sforchird.com or call 954-252-8116.
