It’s safe to say Miami isn’t the cultural mecca it could be… wait a second… something’s happening on the radar… yep, it just happened. Miami is that cultural mecca, thanks in part to Miami City Ballet. That most flexible of local cultural institutions will add a certain je ne sais quoi (that’s French for “bad-ass-ness”) to the Ziff Ballet Opera House this Saturday with it first program of the year, Program I.
This year’s opening performance will be, ahem, en pointe, with the ballerinas swooning to hip and upbeat World War II-era big-band tunes, along with classical, more demure Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky productions. It sounds like an expensive night out, but theatergoers musn’t plié deep into their wallets just yet. Seats range from $19 to $169, with the option of a $39 dinner at Prelude by Barton G., the new restaurant inside the opera house. The show begins at 8 p.m.
