Keep Miami New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $7,500 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
If there’s one upside to the Winter Music Conference/Ultra Music Festival split, it’s that instead of one week of solid partying, Miami now gets two. The constant hangovers will be rough, but that’s why we have children later in life, no? And just as you were coming down from your WMC high, here comes the Opium Group to inject you with plenty more party serum. During Miami Music Week (this Tuesday through March 27), the nightclub conglomerate’s flagship venue, Mansion, promises to bring the heavy hitters of the electronic music world to perform under one roof.
Tuesday’s kickoff has always leaned toward electro, with past acts such as MSTRKRFT, Peaches, Crystal Castles, DJ Hell, Felix da Housecat, and the Presets taking the stage. This year, look for DJ Benny Benassi, who had his own success in electro with 2003’s “Satisfaction.” This time around, he is rounding up a group of merry dance music misfits, including Calvin Harris, Riva Starr, and Congorock, to explore the final electro frontier.
