For more than four and a half years, Ciné-Club 24 has been programming Sunday-afternoon film screenings of both famed and forgotten international classics. Surprisingly, these weekly movie events have so far remained a mystery, even among the more culturally attuned members of Miami’s population. Boasting a library of more than 4,000 feature films and documentaries on DVD — not to mention a small digital theater with a 12-by-10-foot projection screen — this community film center is a vastly underappreciated resource.
So if you haven’t already visited, head there this Sunday for Classic Mexican Cinema, a four-part show beginning at 2 p.m. with a screening of 1946’s Enamorada by director Emilio Fernandez. Two more Fernandez films will follow: the 1943 romance María Candelaria at 3:15 and the 1947 Steinbeck adaptation La Perla at 4:45. Then, ending things will be director María Novaro’s 1991 Danzón, a story about finding oneself through dance. And, as always, wine and refreshments are free.
