Keep Miami New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $7,500 by April 26. Your support ensures Miami New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Perhaps you don’t have a Valentine this year. Perhaps you’d rather pledge your love and devotion to the characters on the big screen; they never broke up with you via text message. With the money you’ll save on not buying someone flowers, you can get a ticket for the New World Symphony’s Great Loves of the Silver Screen this Saturday at 7 p.m. Held in the gilded, vintage Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center (174 E. Flagler St., Miami), this orchestra concert will include projected clips from films such as Doctor Zhivago, Madame Bovary, Brigadoon, and King Kong. Pay homage to the days when movies were accompanied by a live organist and not the incessant ringing of cell phones. Some patrons will be decked out in gowns and tuxes because there’s also a $750-a-ticket Vivace gala, where movie director David Frankel will MC.
