Create it, tape it up, and get together to appreciate the artist in you. Wallpeople invites you to join the movement this Saturday, when 40 cities worldwide simultaneously turn urban spaces into outdoor pop-up art galleries. It’s the second time the event has hit Miami, and this year’s theme is “Wallpeople 2013: Music Edition.”
Any artist — from pro-level painters to occasional hobbyists — can hang their themed masterpiece on the wall and join the festivities. The idea is for Miami’s arty types to meet fellow artists from the neighborhood. By the end of the event, participants can take down and swap works with one another.
Participants have two ways to create. Option one: Make a piece or multiple pieces that reinterpret a specific song in an artistic format of one’s choosing; the piece must indicate the singer and song title. Option two: Create any work related to music in a general way — a tribute to an artist, a concert, a musical moment in one’s life, a favorite style, a musical origin, etc. Organizers will provide the double-sided tape, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own tape to facilitate the mounting process.
Sat., June 1, 5-8 p.m., 2013
