Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Unless it’s the weekend of the South Beach Comedy Festival, Miami is not exactly known as a comic’s paradise. And that’s sad, because there are some very funny people lurking in the Magic City. What they need is some recognition. And the Ultimate Miami series of events at Magic City Casino (450 NW 37th Ave., Miami) is poised to offer just that.
Miami’s Greatest Night of Comedy is the result of months of planning and competition among Miami’s stand-up comics. Last month, locals battled in the semifinals for a chance to be one of 18 finalists who’ll compete for the title of Ultimate Miami Comedian — and the honor of sharing the stage with comedy great Jon Lovitz. The finalists, including local favorites Ricky Cruz, Nery Saenz, and Daniel Reskin, get their shot Friday beginning at 9 p.m.
