You might not know Tommy Davidson by name, but as soon as you see his bugged-out eyes, squarish head, and emaciated frame, you’ll remember him from the Wayan brothers’ sketch comedy show, In Living Color, or as the overcaffeinated tribal warrior in Ace Venture Pet Detective II: When Nature Calls. Before going Hollywood and appearing in movies with Halle Berry and Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as in Spike Lee’s Bamboozled, Davidson cut his teeth on the stand-up comedy circuit, playing Washington, D.C.-area clubs. Honestly, we’re more interested in watching his blaxploitation film, Black Dynamite, which killed at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, about a jive turkey saving the city’s orphanages from crack. Until we can get our hands on a DVD copy, however, we’ll have to make due watching Davidson perform live. This Thursday through Sunday, he’ll appear at the Miami Improv.
